Default Dissapointing run on rollers this morn! What mods now?

My 99 version 5 sti has a full de-cat exhaust and still only managed 279 bhp, the guy at interpro said the car was running fine apart from there was a drop in touque midrange, where could i be losing power and what to do? cheers Dan Rolfe

It could possably be because of your decat that your getting a drop off of torque in the midrange. The classic STi's are known not to react well to modifying without remaps due to the strain they have on them already, but 279bhp is still a good power output, nothing to be ashamed of, just ensure your running the car on super/optimax and unleaded, also have a knocklink fitted to see whats happening under the bonnet, but if the car drives like it should then you shouldnt have much to worry about

I always use optimax id rather run out than put any other crap in. Yeh cars drives fine, but sounds like i need to spend a bit of money to get the power i want, so where shall i start? Dan

R&R's are always expensive days as once you put your car on the rollers and it doesnt achieve what you expected suddenly a car you were perfectly happy with ends up costing hundreds of pounds more for other supporting mods to make quicker dont put it on again as if you find out its not as good next time it'll be more ££££
had mine on the rollers twice and after everytime ive spent a fortune on bits to make quicker. next r&r is the last for me and no more addons

it depends on what mods you intend to add on. Are you fitting an FMIC.. different turbo? Injectors? etc
If your runing on a standard ECU then a remap will deffinatly give you more power however the more mods you have the bigger the difference a remap will make. Choose a good mapper... i've booked mine at BR developments

Dan, just out of interest what boost is your car running now? I have another thread running to find out whether 1.2bar is safe on an MY96 Sti with full de-cat. I am only showing one green light on knocklink at high revs - wondered what srandard boost was on your Sti with a de-cat. Mine has always boosted too low so I am not sure what setting I should be using on the boost controller.
Cheers

Yes - I've got a Blitz Dual SBC which is set to peak at 1.2 bar. It seems to nail this spot on.
