Purchased a Knock link & sensor for MY99 STi-v5 which I'm gonna fit tomorrow, got a location for the sensor (Under the intercooler on the block) but dont really know where to mount the unit inside the car.

Any of you guys got a picture of your chosen location for mounting the knock link unit?

Cheers,
Jon.

i remotely fitted mine in the plastic instrument shroud above the rev counter/speedo ect.
You have to unsolder all the leds from the PCB in the box though and solder them to another piece of PCB, then conect them up to the box with a lenght of ribbon cable.
Someone else done it on here but i cant remember who it was!
I find it effective as it gives a good stealth look and is right in the 'line of fire',ie, you dont have to take your eyes off the road and it dosent get obscured by sunlight.

Thanks guys, Went about fitting the knock link this morning, As I was looking for a suitable place to mount the sensor I found there was already a bosh sensor mounted on the right hand intercooler bracket, I traced the wires into the car but lost them up under the dash some where...

Seems somebody has/had one installed before, but mounting the sensor on the inlet manifold surely isnt as good as mouning it on the block say above piston 2? (I think).

Anyway it started raining so all i managed to do was mount the knock link unit in the drivers side air vent, which looks quite neat.

If it stops raining I will get the sensor mounted and connected up.

I will leave the other sensor where it is as I dont know where or what it goes to :O

Cheers Caz, dam good idea that m8
Yuk Fou, if you take off the intercooler youl see the factory sensor, dont attempt to fit your sensor to it! If you look imediatley to the right of the factory sensor, if you were standing by the passenger side front wheel, bout 2-3 inches away and abit higher up on the block youl see a small bracket bolted there secured by a 12mm socket sized bolt, bolt it here m8, you need another bolt 8mm thread size and 30mm long. Becarefull you dont cross thread it though like i nearly did.

Right, Got it all fitted this afternoon, have mounted the sensor 2 " to the right of the standard sensor, where theres a little braket holding a small pipe.

As the car turns over and starts the first 2 green lights and 1 amber light flicker on then just the first green light stays on but dim, when driving the theres no activity from any of the lights. If I tap the block with a spanner all the lighs flicker on.

Surely I should get some activity when driving?.

That all sounds as though its working fine to me
If you 'realy' want to try and induce some K.L activity, get on a good stretch of private track in top gear at around 70 then boot it and watch it carefully, idealy, you dont realy want to see more than the first yellow.

Puff,

Was intending to do similar to yours. How do you remove the plastic instrument surround? I can see 2 screws in the top which obviously have to be removed, are there any others and how do I access/remove 'em?
Cheers.

The only other fittings are 2 plastic lugs at the bottom corners that press into the dashboard chasis...

As you're going to be running wires etc, remove lower dash cover (under s/wheel) with a philips each bottom corner and a "lug" on the side (twist anti-clock, it comes out, then pull the rest out) then a tug at the top of each corner for plastic lugs.

The lip of the lower dash cover just comes over the binacle surround, so it helps a bit.

Then its the 2 visible screws a tug on each corner of the binacle cover.

Right now it's in front of the gearstick, below the ashtray. However, it's going to be in the gauge pod. The box will be under the pod and the flying leads/LEDs will be installed in the face of the pod somewhere.

You are all obviously flash *******s some good bits of DIY there. I have mine wedged behind my Lamco steering column gauge, kind of stuck on to the bottom left corner of the dash. Looks quite neat.

No pics though
