I will be going away soon and I will be leaving my car in my dads garage for 3-6 months. Does anyone know if this will be a problem other than the battery running flat. I can get it started once a week but I fully expect them to forget after the first month so it might sit there unused for quite a while. Will the brakes or anything like that sieze up ?

Some tips : Remove the tyres, place them horizonatlly covered with talk powder in a dry and dark place....
Run your fuel tank almost empty so that yyou can fill it up with new fuel after the 6 months, fuel has a "exp. date"
Leave the hand brake off, remove the battery, it could start leaking and so....
Also remove the airfilter and place it in a dry place...
Place the wipers in the upside position, use a cover to protect the car

Creepy...

And when you do get back, nuture her for the first 250 miles so that everything can lube up properly. I would take mine in for a service, oil change etc. Best bet is if you can get someone to driver her round the block once every 2 weeks or so... but who do u trust! 8-)

When you first start the engine, I'd take the plugs out and run it on the starter to get the oil pressure up correctly with no compression load.

...but I'd leave the tank full rather than empty, as an empty tank can corrode. Just run the car delicately for that tank when you get back, preferably wopping in some octane booster as well.

I was told to leave the fuel tank full so that you don't get a build up of condensation in the tank.

wedge the clutch pedal down or the clutch plate may stick to the flywheel. or get your dad to fire it up once every week and just reverse it out of garage to get clutch to rotate on flywheel.

Question

I thought you weren't supposed to wedge clutch pedals down as it put undue stress on the clutch cylinders? I know of a chap with a Westie that did this and leaked clutch fluid all over the driveway as it couldn't handle the constant pressure.

Don't know if this is true, but might be worth looking into it before you do it.
