MAF failure
#1
I noticed irregular idle on my MY1999 within minutes of collecting car after 90,000 miles service. I returned to the garage next day to be told the problem was MAF failure. The garage say this is jut bad luck and nothing to do with the car being on their premises at the time! Has anyone had a similar experience or can anyone throw any light on why this may have happened. The garage replaced the whole unit at a cost to me of a little under £270 before I had time to draw breath. Ouch!!!

I think you can buy just the sensor for about £70.. and not the whole MAF unit...
There trying to fob you off, didnt you get any warranty..?? even only a month..?? they should pay for it..

Many thanks for your help. The garage has already promised that the MD will ring tomorrow so I will ask him why I was not offered the replacement part and will let you know how I go on.

I am pleased to report that the MD rang as promised and after I gave him details of replacement part he has ordered some from Japan as local dealers were willing to order but had none in stock. He has agreed to share the cost of replacement part and to refund the cost of the complete unit. The part should arrive in about 10 days. Thanks for your help and advice.
