Question

Not the most interesting topic I know, but I'm having trouble making my front window demist. Don't have an electric demist so its all with the fans.

It doesn't seem to matter where I put the dials (hot/cold, all on window/ window/floor, hi blast/low blast) it just doesn't want to clear?

Anyone else have similar probs?

Absolute bizzare sugestion here - have you checked the rear lights etc for leaks?

My old Pug wouldn't demist, no matter what I did. The reason was that there was a lake under the rear seats (caused by the rear lights leaking) this made the inside of the car always damp, so there was penty of mist material to go at.

I cleaned it all up and dried everything out, and it wasn't a problem again.

As I said, strange but true

cheers for the suggestion dnb, I'll check to see if anything is damp (it doesn't smell so but it could be).

My mk1 golf gti once filled up with water due to the scuttle plate? (bit against the bulk head underneath the bonnet) becoming blocked with leaves, thus rain couldn't drain away so it buolt up and poured over behind the dash, hmmm lovely swimming pool in drivers and passengers foot well.

Our "other" car, a Citroen Xantia, suffered from this over the winter. My wife usually drives it. When I happened to go out in it one night, and commented on it, she reckoned it had been getting worse over the last few weeks. It also had a strange smell when you first got in to it.
That gave me the clue, and it was right: the heater matrix had a very small leak, just enough to fill the car with moist air when it was warm, but not enough to wet anywhere.

Another possibly odd suggestion. Have you cleaned your window (inside) lately? If the window is dirty it seems to steam up easier. You may also want to try some anti-mist/fog spray.
