Default Engine Management light on after battery disconnect

Evening all,

Had a slight hesitation under low load acceleration.

Did some research and thought likely culprit was the MAF sensor so did the 'MAF test' - running engine up to temp, unplugging MAF whilst running and see what happens.

Engine stalled instantly when unplugging connector so removed the MAF and gave the element a few sprays of carb cleaner. Allowed the sensor to dry and refitted. Disconnected the negative terminal for 45 mins and reconnected. Problem is, fired the car back up and the engine management light is now on?

I haven't been able to take it out for a drive to see if the light will turn off as looking after the little one but question is, is the EML light being on after the above normal? Will it likely turn off after a drive?

It's a standard 2004 WRX wagon

if the MAF isn't at fault it 'may' switch to a historic code and eliminate the light after a few times starting and realising its not an issue..........

Ok interesting. Can you just confirm that if the MAF is working correctly the engine stalls as soon as it's unplugged? Doesn't seem to make sense to me

yes because its taking a live reading and its interrupted..........

in general if it continues to run (in particular with little change) then it would suggest its using 'learned' readings due to failure
