Check light coming on?
Drive ok when warm or like that all the time?
Had same fault on mine, turned out to be a lambda sensor, change the Maf yourself if it is that, dead easy 2 min job, bugger paying someone else if you can do it yourself

When mine did it and the light didnt come on either, hesitated and then pulled through the hesitation warm mostly but sometimes cold, mine was the lambda, would also explain your other thread of crap fuel consumption

i made a thread about this when i first got it and people were saying maf sensor. but it sounds like what yours was doing.

I would be going for the lambda then first, i got a blue print one from a local motor factor for £50, and sorted it all out straight away, also sorted my ****ty fuel consumption too

open bonnet, look in from drivers side, behind turbo, screw's into the exhaust pipe from the turbo heading backwards and just follow the wire to a connector, and unplug.
They come with a little sachet of grease, just smear a tiny amount on the threads when you screw the new one in, dont go swinging on it with a spanner, only needs to be hand tight, then about half a turn with a spanner to tighten it up.
The one that i got had a slightly different connection plug on it, so dont throw the old one away, as they can be swapped, just need a small terminal screwdriver to remove the contacts and fit into the old plug, sounds more complicated when writing it down than it actually is

sounds like what mine is doing with the hesitation - will think about replacing this on mine - guessing 18mpg is crap fuel consumption ??
Although mine has just passed the MOT so would it be a lamba ??
