Default v5/6 wrx sti

Hi all.

I've picked up a mint condition 1998 impreza sti. I'm so prowd of it :-)

I would like to know what modification steps I can take to get up to 330 bhp or a bit more. It's currently got full 3" straight through exhaust and a standard air box with KnN panel filter. It's got the standard blower which I think is a vf28.

What's next?
Any help much appreciated.

1998 would make it a version 4, you can only ESL the ecu, also it would have a VF24. If its a V5/6 then the ecu can be mapped via EcuTek or open source.

You need decat, fuel pump & a remap. That should see 320+.Ported up pipe/headers, STi 8 TMIC or FMIC a good idea but not needed

Don't forget Aug 1998> (the 'Manufactured Date' on the V5) would be a MY1999 Version 5 - so the VF28 would be correct in this case.

Is your applied model code's 4th character an 'F'? Is the coil pack on the inlet manifold offset slightly to the passenger side? Does it have the facelift front bumper?...

If so great choice of car lol.

blower is very unlikley to hit 330, so options are fuel pump, decat and map, or fue pump decat, turbo and map. Or add few other bits in like headers, up pipe, inlet pipe etc

It's the face lift, is a v4 pre face lift? I've only just bought it so not got full v5 just yet, unless you can tell from the reg? It's defo got a vf28 turbo. I will have a look at the chassis plate when I get a minute. So basically all I need is the walbro and a remap.

In that case, and if it hasn't been messed with by previous owners, then it'll be a Version 5.

MY93-96 - pre-facelift, phase 1.

MY97/98 - semi-facelift, phase 1.5.
Revised engine, bonnet, rear bumper, diamond-mesh grille, headlights. STi gets mid-level spoiler. MY98 gets the revised interior.

MY99/00 - full facelift, phase 2.
Adds re-revised engine & front bumper, bumper indicators, hexagon-mesh grille, clear headlights. STi gets high rear wing with the MY00 Version 6 wing gaining a 'gurney'.

I've literately got the same car as you

1999 V Reg STI, Confirmed on the road 333 Bhp-312 Ft/TQ. by the late JGM

Ecutek live map by Simon Roe
Standard Vf28
Ported standard exhaust manifold
Standard TMIC
Warlbro 255 Fuel pump (Now changed to a Scoobworx 290l/ph)
Full 3" decat Hayward and Scott exhaust
K&N open cone filter

Ive added a few bit's since then, it's been off the road.None really to add power more for future proofing and a bit of bling. Most importantly is starting out with a good engine and compression.

Little link to the project thread ( title should say V5)

Very nice car though and looks really clean your's. In the fastest colour

Nice car Hopley, 2001-onwards WRX wheels.

V5 certainly, facelift bumper, facelift grille, crystal lights and flat-top rear spoiler.

Good choice.

I've Harvey headers and up pipe, newage sti tmic, sx fpr a decat down pipe , silicone turbo inlet and lightweight pulleys waiting to go on then another map tweek.
Not looking for much more power just response.

I'd defo go for the Harvey up-pipe, now available from AS Performance, just for the lower spool.
