changing ecu v5/v6 uk model
hi guys, firstly id like to say hello, im on a few car forums and this is another as ive owned a scooby for many years, i had a jap import mapped etc some time ago whicha was kin quick full decat etc but it wasnt reliable and i blew the engine 2 times before i decided to sell it and get a 1999 UK model standard unmolested 220 bhp, ive fitted a hks dump valve, blitz panel filter and a prodrive back box, ive got a itch guys and im thinking of changing the ecu to a prodrive unit, vf 28 turbo, uprated fuel pump, and ive already got 440cc injectors standard, ive read several posts but cant seem to find my answer and needed to post.
if i get the required ecu is it just a straight swap??
will it need recoding to my car system/alarm??
will it need cam/crank rewiring??
im not a complete newbie as ive modified many cars in the the past, and fitted a complete engine in my old scooby, any help is apprec guys thanx mick

well that was my intention of fitting a vf28 too, i understand what your saying but surely this is by far a cheaper route no???
ive read loads of threads on here today and the ecutek is £500 alone for a licence isnt it???
i was looking at £225 for the vf28
£200 ecu
£75 wlbro pump
so same price but id still need a remap at £150 so total of £650 and i dont think my uk model will make the same power will it
any help and advice i always appreciate guys thanx mick

the prodrive ecu is the same as a jdm sti v5 and has a vf28 fitted as standard matey so what would be the difference, i know the uk2000 doesnt have a sti engine in it but if i put the same turbo/ecu as the jdm when its just a slighty different engine isnt it

The only ecu you can fit is the prodrive one for 99/00 uk turbo's which is the SP one. It is a straight fit no need to recode keys etc. And will give you a performance hike especially in mid-range
Once you change the turbo then you need ecutek
also, have a read at the other thread here talking about the E3 ecu
https://www.scoobynet.com/engine-management-and-ecu-remapping-453/990134-my99-ecu-e3-a800.html again this is on td04 turbo

looking at other options now as if i get the sp ecu and a vf turbo it will still need mapping so unless i just put the sp in and left it at that,
but what about a apexi/power fc 2nd hand if i can get one, this only incurs the price of the unit/turbo/map no licence???
input welcome guys

No license cost on apexi
When you pay for ecutek you pay for the initial map & license, that can cost between 450-550 depending on who you purchase from. Once you map it the license remains on ecu, and any future remaps are usually 150 less as you are only paying for mappers time.

thanx boss so i see what you mean, if i bought a apexi say @ £350 then map @ 150 equals £500
so the 450-550 you say above inludes the board, licence and map
so no difference am i correct gam??
so id be better off fitting a vf28 or eqivalent and then getting ecu sorted also id need a walbro pump i think too
this is my intented setup
v5/6 uk2000
vf28
mapped ecu
blitz panel filter
440cc injectors
walbro 255 pump
hks dump valve
maybe a sti tmic
what bhp would i see boss
thanx again mick

if the ecu has a pink sp on it and is from a v5/v6 car then it should be ok on a 1998 v5 but use the search and check boss
EDIT id check to make sure sure you have a v5 as 1998 can be v4 too, check the ecu currently fitted in the car, if youve bought a v5 sp ecu and yours is a v4 version the ecu wont work mate

if the coil is off centre to the right hand/passenger side then its a v5 and it will run it
also if i buy a black e3 ecu for my car as a spare if i want to put back after to standard and sell the ecutek e3 that i get done will i need the spare ecu code key or will it work just by plugging straight in, i know the v5/v6 dont need the key on the SP prodrive ecu
again thanx

Based south east but travel all over. Hoping the eculabs will come in at similar money with mafless option.
