Simtek start up and idle problem :(
Hi all any help with the following would be very helpful as im at my wits end here, il list symptoms as best i can any questions or blanks just ask
Right after having a simtek fitted and mapped by JGM with antilag and launch control, whenever i start the engine it revs very high up to about 3k the only way to stop that is by flicking on the antilag for 5-10 seconds, the idle is also very ruff at stand still and can fluctuate from anything between 100-600rpm, this is even worse when if say slowing from 20 and you are braking as you slow and take it out of gear the engine occasionally stalls
i have replaced the Idle control valve to no change, however if i get it idling normally (800rpm) then just disconnect the idle control conector, the engine idles around 1k and does not over rev on startup as described earlier, however the engine decellaration is not as strong and seems as tho the ecu is keeping the idle slightly higher, when taken out of gear it sits at 1200 rpm for 15 or so secs then drops to 1k again
As the icv valve has been checked and replaced i dont know what to go for next? Any help would be much appreciated as its really not ideal to keep having to turn my antilag on and off all the time
Thanks mike

Your idle when warm should be around 1k after market ecus generally don't idle like oe ecus it's always a bit high but the fact your having issues away from that I would suggest giving jgm a call I would however stop buying bits till jgm has seen it, it could be something simple.

I had that issue, the ISCV wouldnt reposition itself, the throttle position was so unpredictable you didnt know if the throttle would jam open or the car would stall. I did the same, manually positioned the ISCV and disconnected it, but got pissed off and went back to my mapper (repeatedly) until the ECU ended going back.
Do you have an alarm or imobilser as you need a power supply for 10 secs after engine turn off to reset the ISCV (apparently) but some alarms can cut power too early for reset to occur - if not it may be a driver issue with the ECU. Talk to the mapper.

Just ask Simon to take another look at it, preferably from cold as that always helps.
It can be hard to get the cold idle right first time on an aftermarket ecu, especially if the mapper never actually gets to map it from cold.

Hi Mike,
I am not aware of any contact from you, my memory can be bad but would think I would remember.
Drop me a line and we can organise taking a look.
Thanks

Just double checked and your ecu was one of the early 99 with closed loop idle so will have the double the stepper motor on start up issue I identified and has now been sorted.
So the ecu needs swapping to resolve the issue and idle reset

Feel I am talking to myself now lol.
I have a new ecu here in stock, yours needs to go back for the correction to the firmware.
If you want to hook up I can swap the ecu and load your map and check it for free obviously.
Thanks
