Exhausts - what is best to change to?
#1
I have an MY00 with a TEK 1 and Dawes mod's. I'm very tempted by the TEK2 (PPP plus a bit apparently ), but running a standard exhaust makes me wonder how much benefit I would see.
I don't want to run a full decat - MOT's, etc. - so
1, If I do nothing, would the TEK 2 acheive much?
2, If I change part of exhaust to keep Cats in the system, which bit is best?
3, Not keen on too much volume in the car from Aftermarket systems ... I know Remus BB's are quietish, any other suggestions for DP's, etc?
4, Is the standard twin pea-shooter as restrictive as every one says?
I'd be grateful for any info.

Why not just change the downpipe and backbox then? The backbox is the thing that really makes the noise. You can have a full decat system quieter than cars with just a backbox - until you really boot it at higher revs.

John,
You mention engine safety ...
Can you explain a little ... I'd be very grateful because that is really what's on my mind - a noticable power increase (say 20% I guess) into a standard exhaust, must have the potential for problems, but what?
Thank you.

Magnex do a great DP and back box arrangement, they are a very refind system and look really nice too.

Thanks John.
Bearing in mind I don't do tracks, etc., I guess the TEK 2 shouldn't cause any problems ... I'm assuming the cylider temps would be an issue if pushing the engine hard for a noticable period of time ...?

Every little helps, but I run my MY00 at 18.5 ish PSI with SUL + NF 1ml/litre for fast road use, with PPP ECU and decat exhaust. Most would not go further on such a setup. I would do the same on a MY99/00 non-PPP ECU, and the same still on a leaned out ECU, but the latter not on track unless I could check exhaust gas temps.
