Question

should hopefully be getting BMP Twindump downpipe this week (thanks Lou_C) and hopefully it should be fitted before xmas.

This should mean that the car will have no cats, which is nice. now, would this mean flames for me? think there might be a resonator in the center section so this might quench things.

when would flames be likley to occur?

daft question I know, but I'm curious

On over run.

If the car is running rich in over run and the exhaust is hot, then packets of unburnt fuel can ignite on the hot exhaust as they get close to the atmosphere as there is sufficient air for them to catch.

dirve the car hard (or even at all) then let go of accelerator, the car will keep rolling but the engine will be idling/coasting whilst the exhaust is still hot.

Either that or as you slow down and put the car in second say on the approach to a roundabout where you are hoping not to stop, if the car is running rich which it should do in standard trim, you should get pops and bangs.

Little blue flames tend to appear when you are bombing it on acceleration through teh gears, but unless you are driving behind yourself you will never see this.

ahh, thanks for the super-fast reply. as I engine brake a lot when coming to roundadoubts then maybe I might see a few wee flames!

more serious point, can the police 'do' me if the car produces flames?

It's unlikely you'll be running very rich though Mark, Optimax may help though!
As for the police, try driving a bit more conservatively when they are about. I *think* flame-outs in front of them may be a Bad Thing generally. May also encourage them to make you do an emmisions test - which you would fail unless you popped a cat back in

Cool

My full scoobysport makes pops and bangs. Didnt know what the hell it was at first. If I go for a freeway cruise and get things a bit hot then it will make interesting sounds when slowing down in gear. Dont know if there are any flames.

markus for you to get flames you will need to be booting it, pops and bangs are not a presecuatble offense (i doubt flames are either). As chuck says you will need to be flooring it with them right behind you. If you do that then you are a bloody idiot anyway and deserve to be stopped just for being foolish.

Markus

I get nice flames from mine when the exhaust is hot, on really dark roads you can occasionally see them flash in the rear view mirror (but dont drive round looking in your RVM).

Also since I fitted the S AFC (Apexi) I get huge pops & bangs (the kind that make people drop there shopping!) I'm running 25% more fuel - I have ony got 1 box in my system and thats a Scoobysport back box.

Adam, would not dream of 'giving it large' with police nearby, not my idea of a wise thing to do.

antilag would be nice - but would no doubt destroy things and i'd need to change to motec at considerable cost

lol @ barge

it's usually called 'flaming blackbeast' or words to that effect!

not too bothered if there are no flames, but it might be nice

fingers crossed for the pickup tonight, and hopefully getting it fitted next week, will make a nice xmas pressie. All I need then is some cash (hint, hint and I can get some new wheels to go with my new brakes.
