You have the choice of UK/Euro 6 speed or Jap Import [ JDM ] 6 speed; either only in the STi or the very latest Forester.

If you have a UK classic then it will be cheaper and less hassle to fit a 6 speed from a UK/Euro car as it will match your rear diff straight off. The 5th and 6th ratios are quite long and will give you a very high potential top speed. [ 8000 rpm = @ 204 mph............]

If you have a WRX or STi then a JDM 6 speed is the better option but depending upon your rear axle ratio you may need to change your rear diff for a 3.9. So far ALL [ UK/Euro and JDM ] 6 speeds are 3.9:1 final drive ratio.

The 5th and 6th ratios on the JDM box are more closely spaced than the UK/Euro car version, but will still run out to @192 at 8000 in 6th !!

To put the JDM box in the UK/Euro Classic then you'll need a rear diff of 3.9:1 ratio to make it work.

Vice versa to put the UK/Euro 6 speed in the WRX / STi import you'll need he 3.5:1 ratio rear diff from the UK/Euro car.

Wherever you buy the 6 speed and whichever version you buy, make sure you get the selector linkage and the propshaft too. Once you have that the box will go in without any other parts required, [ bar the diff thing of course ] Clutch / flywheel are all Ok, mounting is OK, fitment is Ok, speedo drive works for either electronic or cable speedos. Dead simple really.

If you have got confused call me and l'll try to untangle it for you.

Kind regards - Good Luck !

I'd recommend an uprated gearbox mount as well due to the extra weight, the side shifting of the bigger and heavier box will allow it to just touch the transmission tunnel in some cases..
Roger clark do em, as do Lateral Performance.

8000 rpm = @ 204 mph............
It may well do but in reallity mine doesn't want to go much past a GPS reading of 174 (and i'm not short a few horses)

Managed to find the piccy then graham.

If you saw it against the standard 00MY UK mount designed to control movement of the five speed you'll see why it should be changed.

The only other fiddly little item you need is a bracket to hook the spring on the clutch release arm into.
six speed clutch release arm is used and the five speed slave cylinder bolts straight on, no clutch bleeding required.

What is involved in fitting the uprated gearbox mount as the standard mounts were refitted when my 6 speed was installed?

Daniel S No harm done mate good luck to you. lt'll be a while before you get a car but enjoy it when you do.

As always I am happy to answer where I can, on what l know about. You don't have to spend money.

The 204 mph is a straight maths theoretical and it does rely upon the ability to rev out to 8000 and tyre size and so on. How did Andy F get to 210 or whatever it was??

Good Luck all - Dan, keep asking mate, you'll go far.

By having a custom ratio 5th gear and very tall tyres...and an engine that 'could' rev to 9k...plus the ***** to try it

Can you supply the bolts that hold the pressure plate to the flywheel?

Sorry Mark, been away from the machine all weekend - just picking up on it all now. No email at the office again today, we think it's the spyware this time.

Yes, we have used, but good, bolts but not new.

Let me know if i can help you.
