Default Do I need a re-map?

I have an sti 4, and have just fitted a magnex decat downpipe. Car feels more punchy lower down but, as the revs rise, I get a kick at 4000 and then another at 6500. Overall, it actually feels slower than before. ( Only slightly )
I was wondering if the car will learn a new map, or if I will have to get an apexi ecu or equivilant, as I have heard that my97 and my98 cars cannot have their original ecu's remapped.
Thanks guys

Just been out for another run and noticed the following:
-Peak boost is between 1.0 and 1.1 bar. ( I used to have 1.4 peak and 1.2 and max rpm.
Could I have a leak somewhere?
Does this kind of thing usually occur after a decat?
I estimated that I am now around 25bhp down on what I had before.
??????????

Fixed. There was some kind of packaging in the bl@*dy downpipe. Driving it up a hill on full throtte and then I felt a massive thud. Looked in rear view mirror to see a cloud of what looked like paper or cardboard particles! Then the car just 'woke up'. Im hitting 1.4bar as before which settles to 1.2 as revs increase. And it sounds awesome!

Chris,

Are you using any sort of boost controller ? I believe your Magnex is a twin dump pipe like my mongoose. See this thread and my problem

problem.http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/showthread.php?t=370248

I'm not havingan problems with 'over boost' at the moment. Running standard vf24 turbo. I posted a question on here recently asking what sort of downpipe to get. Didnt get any replys so just went for a magnex twindump to seperate the gases. Now I find out that these have potential problems! Is this right???

Well, I had not heard of it before to be honest. I used to have a Magnex on my old UK car, no problems with that one although it did creep a little in fifth by a couple of psi. I thought that was normal in fifth though
