Oil recommendation for JDM 6 spd
#5
Can I suggest avoiding putting the Redline shock proof oil into a syncro box, it's designed for LSD applications and it isn't a good idea to treat the syncro rings in the same way.
I have been hearing good things about the Millers and their CRX 80W90 gear oil for the 'box, and the CRX LS (standing for 'Limited Slip') 80W90 for the rear diff. I've seen the results of it's use in an Sti 5 gearbox used on very high power/torque car which remarkably hasn't shread a gear yet despite some very serious abuse!
This is what I'll be using in my UK spec 6 speed once it's in the car and running

Tim, having used Motul 300 and Castrol Syntrax, the Redline Shockproof was by far the best from a gearchange point of view, and quietness.
The weakest part of the 6 speeds are the synchros, and i felt as though i was testing them recently. With the motul and syntrax in, i had engaged gears, but had no drive. The Redline has stopped this from happening.
I spent £80 twice in 3 weeks for redline, to use on both the 6 speeds. It has been worth it so far.

P20SPD, I got mine direct from the UK importer at £15.41 a quart with free delivery if you spend over £50. Tell them you are a member of a car club to get the discounted price (I just said Subaru, that was enough) www.redlineoil.co.uk
