Superchip, remove or leave on?
I know what the general thoughts are regarding these, but as I have got one fitted allready do I really need to take it off ?
Anyone had any first hand experiences with them good or bad?
Car is a sti 5 (wagon)
the superchips done less than 1000 miles on the car,
Will I also need a boost gauge or knocklink?
Sorry for the stupid questions but I havent really got a clue! and I want to look after my new little runabout
without having to spend too much money,
any thoughts/ advice would be welcome,

cheers, anyone got any other ideas or options
1, get the car checked out to see if its running as it should
2, remove the superchip, run it in standard form
3, source a different ecu and get it mapped properly
what would you do?

2 then 3.
At standard boost some STi 5s melt pistons and really like 100-102 RON.
Adding boost to that is a recipe for a complete and utter disaster.
On a non-STi you can usually get away with it at <17 PSI.

cheers John, do I need a different ecu or can I just get an ad on for the existing one and then get it mapped?
what sort of ecu would anyone recommend?

Anyway agree with what's been said so far!
Remove the Superchip and get BRD to Ecutek it for you! I highly recommend them, after all they mapped my old silver car! 340bhp+ (depending on rolling road )
If you don't want things like boost gauges and Knocklinks (which I understand) then it's the best way to map it safely and forget about it!!

Hi Andy, hows the honda going, was gonna get an atr after the vti but when I saw the sti wagon I knew it was for me
Would it be allright if I got just knocklink at the moment,(till I can save my hard earned) at least that way if something was going to happen at least I would have some warning before hand, or not?

If you want to keep the Superchip, let me recommend that you:
1) Get a boost gauge to monitor the boost levels, as they have been known to go sky high!!
2) Get a Knocklink, as it will detect knock there and then and you will know to back off.
3) Get a Lamdalink or Air/Fuel Ratio gauge to keep tabs on the fuelling and making sure the car does not run lean!
As for the Honda, it's been fun for the last 6 months, but I've got my eye on a Fiat Coupe next!

I would echo Andy Ts last post having run one on my WRX for well over 20K miles, often with hard use. Good fuel economy and added power. K + N filter,exhaust and superchip with bleed valve 250 bhp and 260 ft/lbs. 13.99 1/4. www.geocities.com/harveysmith3000.
You need a sensible boost limit and you need a boost guage, knock link and AFR guage, something like Aotometer from Scoobymania or whoever. Around £50.
I think that problems attributed to Superchips are down to poor set up on installation or owners then carrying out further mods thus moving the operational perameters.
As you have it, you might as well use it, if checked out carefully by someone who knows what they are doing. Substantially depends on where you want to get to with the car and how much you have to spend.
£700 for an Apexi Power F.C. is certainly very attractive if you are retaining the MAF and have aspirations to do some mapping changes yourself.

Can anyone suggest a garage in or around camberley/aldershot etc that would be able to point the direction I need to go
if reference to checking my car is running allright and possibly fitting and supplying a knocklink,cheers
