Default Vague gearlever

My gearlever has never centred itself since I've had the car and it feels a bit vague, especially 2nd to 3rd (I occasionally end up missing 3rd and it nearly ending up in 1st again). It's one of those things I've been meaning to sort out for a while

Is the linkage serviceable quite easily or is it a gearbox out job to sort?

There is a 'centralising' spring from the bottom of the gear lever to the side of the box. Just get under the car, find the base of the lever, there should be a coil spring there, about 40mm long, and 8 in diameter. If its not there go to Dealer for one. Easy DIY fit.
