Hesitation / Miss Fire?
Driving home last night and i noticed some slight loss of power... in any gear you put your foot down and the turbo kicks in... then a sudden flat spot.. then in would come back a bit. Didnt want to do it to much incase there was a problem...
any ideas?

Everyone will first mention the maff sensor then comes coilpacks and then the plugs...
Try cleaning the maff (carefully) with brake cleaner, If that dont work try new plugs then finally the coilpacks.
But then again I might be talking boll**ks

The Car is a MY99, only mods to engine are a decat centre and prodrive back box. Always Run in Optimax, It seemed ok last night and this morning on way to work... very strange..
Il see how it goes and try the above suggestions later in the week...

There are indeed a boat load of things it could be. For a MY99 (UK?) though, my money's on either the MAF sensor, or the wategate solenoid.
There are 2 tests you can perform for your MAF. With a warm idling engine, pop the bonnet and simply unplug the sensor. If the engine stalls, chances are your MAF's OK. If there's little or no change in revs, your MAF could well be on it's way out. The second test you can do as part of the process for cleaning your wastegate solenoid (see below)...
If it's your MAF, £70 from a Subaru dealer will sort the problem. Wouldn't advise cleaning, as it's quite delicate, and being one of the most important parts under your bonnet, is not worth saving £70 for.
If it's an oily wastegate solenoid, click here for advice on how to clean, and also how to reset your ECU, which is the second MAF test...

If its a definate pulsing on and off the power [ about 1 sec intervals ] under acceleration then it sounds like the solenoid. Thats what mine was doing - cleaned it with brake cleaner and it has been fine since. Previous to that I had a real hesitation / misfire at about 3-3.5K when you got on the throttle - this turned out to be the Lambda sensor being on the way out.

Leon,
I have experienced exactly the same thing on my MY00 and would like to know if you find a cause. It seems just like a 'flat spot' on a carburetter would feel and in my case it is usually gone before you can work out what is happening - or even if you imagined it.

Evening all.
MY99 wagon De-cat centre and ProDrive BB. 40K on the clock serviced on the dot by Subaru every 6 months.
Mines just started to do the very same thing..... again! Had the MAF, Lamda, ECU, solenoid etc etc replaced/cleaned this time last year, and to be honest it's never been 100% since.
It just seems one day to pull like a train and scare the living daylights out of me, and the next as flat as a pancake. You put your foot down, the car makes loads of noise, the turbo whistles..... but you just don't get that 'push back' feeling. I remember having this loss of power on a Fiat UNO when the exhaust at the manifold was 'fooked'. The Scoob still goes, but not like it used to.
In the last week I've had trouble catching a 1.6 'N' reg escort (I did get past him in the end) trouble getting away from a Golf 1.8GTI and an MY01 Scoob blew my doors off! ….and it looked pretty standard to me
Probably find it'll be OK tomorrow. Going to get mine back to Subaru as it's still under extended warranty or get it RR'd ASAP.
