Motul V300 and Castrol RS 10-60 are both good choice.

I'm with Jim on this one, however if you insist on the Mobil, go for the 15W/50 at least. 0/40 is a no no as it gets to thin when hot.

Motul 300V in the 15:50 grade as recommended by Motul themselves, Castrol RS 15:60 (be careful as halfords sell Castrol RS 0:40 which is not good IMHO)

Agree that these are not necessarily readily available so Halfords sell the Mobil 1 Motorsport 15:50 which should be ok, looking at their web site it appears similar to the other two.

Demon Tweeks sell the Castrol RS 10-60 and the Motul 300V 15-50.

Bob

According to Mobil the 0-40 also loses twice as much bulk due to evaporation when compared to the 15-50 Motorsport.

(edited cos I have now swapped the 4 and 6 keys back to their rightful places)

Dan,

Either buy it yourself and take it there, to him or use the Mobil 15W/50. You will need 4.5 litres to fill up, 4.5 litres includes filling up the oil filter too. So it looks like you'll have to buy a 5 litre container.

These are the best oils, look down the topics page of drivetrain and you will see this topic covered under, "HOT OIL, WHICH ONE" and also go back a couple of days in the topics page of drivetrain again and read the main bearing thread, oils are discussed again. The oils Jim mentioned appear to be the best. Then comes the Mobil 15W/50.

Red face

The crap version of castrol RS is 0-40 bob not 0-60.

Just filled my westie with Motul 300V 15-50 after running it on mobil1 motorsport last time out. Yikes, what a diference, my oil presure is nearly 1 BAR higher cold and is 0.75BAR higher hot. It doesnt look like pee either.

I couldnt get Motul or castrol 15-60 last time so tried the Mobil1 motorsport. errrmmm, i think i'll pass on that from now on!

People,

does Castrol do 0W/40, 10W/60 and 15W/60 as in Castrol RS, or is the 15W/50 sorry 15W/60 a typo?

WREXY.

Edited cause I made a typo 15w/50 instead of 15W/60

Motul is(was?) one of the official Subaru's sponsors - look at Subaru-R.Burns posters...
If that means something...

Yes but you haven't (yet ) a Mclaren!...
Ok mate, I mean that you can see a lot of race cars, including Subarus, using Motul oils.
That is important, not the sponsorship...
