Ok..

im considering breaking a set of rollers soon and fancy doing a couple of maps.. my day to day, just pure petrol and then a more blended mix of spirts..

I have access to:

Methanol
Xylene
Toluene
and possibly MTBE

Whats the current trend? optimax and 20% toluene..

how do the above effect / affect (never was good at english) lambda?

David

xylene and toluene are good.

Check the A G Bell book, that has some stuff on fuel mixes, including afr and practicality

Thinners would be good, if only you knew there wasn't anything nasty in with the xylene and toluene.

5-10% methanol works well, but screws your WB AFR reading. Supposed to be better with a bit of toluene too, didn't get around to trying it this time.

methonal is lower octane and energy than fuel. it works by adding to evap cooling effect. You also need to run much more methanol to get correct AFR (about double flow if running 100% meth).

MTBE is good also, as it enhances pretty much whatever else is in the mix, although race fuels are likely to have some in already.

There was a mix on the net which was something like 90% toluene, 5% ATF (for lubrication) and 5% petroleum. There are some references on mixing your own on the net.

If i'm correct MTBE should be difficult to get hold of and only getting harder as it's no longer used in the quantities it used to be.

How were you planning on mixing it accurately? How about a second set of injectors and seperate fuel system to minimise the amount used day to day and accurately control the mix. A single injector at the intercooler outlet perhaps....

Also worth remembering methanol is quite a solvant and you don't want to 'wash' the oil out of the bores.

David, i know a source for race fuel in Leeds

methanol, eats aluminium if left in contact, only mixes with mineral type oils I think which is why speedway bikes use that lovely smelling Castrol R......
