I have just booked my WRX STi V5 Coupe which I have just bought in for an oil change ( better safe than sorry ) at Holdcrofts in Widnes.

I am going to supply the oil so want to make sure I have everything correct.

Engine : 4.5 litres of 0w30 ( fully synth )
Gearbox : 3.5 litres of 70w90
Diffs : I'm unsure of.

They are doing this for £40 ( which I thought was really cheap ).

Can anyone help?

Many Thanks

Andy

Are you sure about the "0w30" for the engine? May be 5W/40, 10W/40 or 5W/50-10W/60 is better IMO of course. If your rear diff is LSD then you need an LSD type (hypoid) oil.

It was just what I was told.

I will go for recommenddations of fellow Scooby owners.

What do you recommend?

It is an STI WRX V5 Coupe ( with electronic centre diff ) unsure about all tecnicalities of the car ( Its my first Scooby and i'm only 21, plenty of time to learn!! )

Hopefully you can help.

Cheers

Cheers people, I did a search but being new and having so many conflicting posts, it really confused me.

Castrol RS is a bonus too, I can get that real cheap!

What about gearbox and Diff oil? Anyone????

Cheers

Andy H

We recommend nothing lower than 10W40 preferably 15W40 or 15W50 in any engine that we have rebuilt and offer the same advice to anybody just doing oil changes.

In our opinion 0W anything is dangerous and potentially very expensive [ see various big end failure threads: just after oil change]

Equally important is HOW the oil is changed and various threads also offer a 'correct' way. We will be putting our version up on our website as a reminder, quite soon.

Maybe a member will put a clicky on here to lead you back to the good ones.

i'm not computer literate enough for that stuff.

This is a tutorial for an oil change, I take no thanks for this as its mainly comprised from various post I've read on scoobynet over the past 6 months;

Oil Change:

1) Warm engine
2) Drain old oil from sump
3) Remove old filter
4) Pre-fill new filter with fresh oil. Fill and keep filling until it won't take anymore.
5) Apply new filter
6) Apply new washer to sump plug and tighten
7) Fill engine oil filler to mid-way between two holes on the dipstick
8) Disconnect crank sensor
9) (Preferably) remove spark plugs
10) Dry crank engine at least until oil pressure light extinguishes - ideally for 20 seconds or so more.
11) Refit spark plugs
12) Refit crank sensor plug
13) Start engine, leave to idle for a good minute or so before driving for oil pressure to stabilise
14) Check sump plug and filter seal for adequate tightness/leaks
15) Go for slow drive until engine fully warmed
16) Top engine oil to upper hole
17) Check sump plug and filter seal for adequate tightness/leaks

Oil Type:

Mobil 1 Motorsport 15w/50, Motul 300V 15w/50 or Castrol RS 10w/60.

hope this helps

Many thanks guys!

They really helped, just hope Subaru are capable of doing an oil change. I hope I am right trusting them!

Cheers again!

My dealer says they use Subaru recommended Castrol 5-30 which must be Magnatec stuff for WRX03, I'm almost convinced that Castrol RS 10-60 is going in though instead.

Anyone think different to that. Handbook does say 5-30 however.

Andy.
