Question

I had a oil temp sensor fitted over the 3rd cylinder a few weeks ago. All good. Problem is that I reversed out of my garage the other day and there were drips of oil on the floor. A few days later I could smell hot oil through the vents and today I see a pool of oil sitting ontop of the engine
Because it's tucked away down here

I can't see how bad the leak is.
I'm assuming that this is where the oil leak is coming from. Question is this. Oil is obviously coming out (Need some ptfe i reckon) which means that air is getting in. Is this a bad thing?

Mikey <Really bored today>

Doubt very much if
a) the amount of air getting in somewhere will be a problem, and
b) if ANY is getting past that .....the oil comes OUT 'cos it's under pressure.

Take it out, wrap with PTFE, (remember to go round in the direction you'll tighten it), and replace.

Exclamation

dont use too much ptfe or you may not be able to tighten the sensor up enough or cause damage

Can you not take it back to the place that fitted it or was it a mate?

Doubt also that air will be getting in..

obviously check your oil level.

Also you might find Boswhite (plumbing sealing paste) is better than tape, although the tape should work but you will have to try and clean the thread.. boswhite seems to seal easier.. just did all my fuel connections with it, and keroscene connections in the house....

leaking connection, undo, put on paste, do up.. start the engine and no leak..

Mikey,

I had the very same problem when I fitted my own temp sensor.

http://www.scoobynet.co.uk/bbs/threa...hreadID=225304

The leak was under the adaptor, rather than between the sensor and the adaptor.

I just removed it, reapplied some PTFE tape and made sure I tightened it properly. I was using a spanner and the grip was ****. Went out and bough a large socket and extension bar for my torque wrench. I was a bit paranoid over the days after, but it's never leaked since.

Take it out and check the thread is OK. The just refit and tighten it good and proper.

Stefan
