The more I read the BBS, the more I see Unichip popping up!
Can anyone tell me anything about it?
Is it a fancy Superchip? Is it as comprehensive as a Possum Link? Or is it a go between the two, like the PE chip?
I'm getting a UK MY99 car, and have to run NORMAL unleaded fuel! I have a SS backbox & downpipe, along with a Magnex mid-section and RamPod air inductor.
What is my best option??

Andy,
I have a Link ECU which I am very happy with - and run 95RON.
The Link is a complete replacement for the existing ECU whereas the Unichip is an "interception" device which alters the picture that the ECU sees.
I have no experience of the Unichip so can't comment but the main source seems to be Powerstation in Cheltenham -

Hi Andy,
I had a UniChip fitted today at Powerstation.
Take up is better, acceleration is smoother.
With a Blitz induction kit and a Scoobysport exhaust I saw 245BHP on their rolling roads with a UniChip.
I'm happy.
BTW: I was VERY impressed with the genuine enthusiasm and experience of the guys at Powerstation.

Andy,
The UNICHIP is an awesome bit of kit. The reliability and performance speak for themselves with <13's @ spod and non-stop track time at Donnington (both cases by Harj).
I have had the UNICHIP for 4 months now without any problems (even though I have had problems with other things.......)
For the cost, I don't think anything can beat it!
As for performance, when you come down to PS on Saturday 27th we can have a chat. Harj and myself can even take you out in our cars, if you want!
Shaun.
P.S. I havent my spreadsheet in front of me, but i'm sure your one of the runners!

Without trying to sound defensive, this report has already been discussed and shows that the person mapping the car is the most important factor.
From a personal standpoint, I would agree with the report only in that cold-starting is worse than the standard ECU but the overall results are much better.
To use a computer similie, the ECU is simply hardware in this context, if the software isn't good - the results will be poor.
Thanks
Gavin

Non-stop running at Donington?
That's clever, considering the day was run in 1/2 hr sessions!!!
You also forgot to mention that the UNICHIPped car was lapped by two non-UNICHIPed cars, so what point are you making?
Therefore although the UNICHIP is undoubtedly an excellent product, it wasn't responsible for either of the two things you've mentioned.
David.
Are you happy with these figures?
What was the torque?
Did you do a power run before getting it fitted?
Cheers.
Stef.

Shaun,
I'm down as a runner, but I'm now not picking up my car until Friday afternoon, so it's going to be a close run thing whether I get it tarted up in time!!!
I'm interested in seeing both your's and Harj's cars!!
Stef,
To be fair, I'm crap when it comes to driving. I could have a 500bhp beast, and still get shown up by a good driver. Like you and your car, for example!!
So I guess I need every advantage I can get!!! Hence the query about chips!
Cheers guys
Andy

Annie...
You have one serious problem, that i'm about to CURE for you!!!! Must you continue to proliferate SENSIBLE posts, with your non stop garbage! Keep your nonsense remarks to yourself, as nobody who wants common sense, wants to hear YOU!
Andy...
Harj went out for each session he could, for the full session (no coming in after 10 mins, like some monkey's did), only to come in briefly to fill-up water injection. And at one point he even stayed out for more 30 mins. By the way, that's on a car running 1.4 bar of boost!
That's pretty amazing if you ask me!!!!!
As I said, your more then welcome to come in Harj's or my car on Saturday.!!!!

I'll put it more politely than Shaun....
Harj was out at one point for 50 minutes. Although at first the sessions were 1/2 hour per hour, towards the end of the day, they opened the track up to all (as many had gone home).
Harj was out for 50 minutes, pulling in once to check on WI levels and to swap passengers (about 1 minute in the pits).
Cheers
Ian

Thanks Ian.

I wasn't talking nonsense, I was simply pointing out that it wasn't the UNICHIP that was responsible for alowing Harj to stay out at Donno for however long. ANY car can stay out on track until they run out of petrol if they really want to.
Besides, any car that can stay on track for 50mins with road tyres and standard brakes clearly isn't being driven hard enough anyway!
Oh, and perhaps you should get on track, or at least come to one yourself before commenting about other people's actions. I actually only came in to change passengers.
Stef.

I'm not commenting about anyBODY, simply giving a more accurate picture of events.
Andy is asking about the UNICHIP, which as you know I have also been considering.
I don't agree that it was responsible for what you have said though, that's all.
I mean if Harj was running 1.4 bar all day, how would he have been lapped?
Anyway, Andy, it is the only 'chip' that I have neard nothing bad about which is a good thing. David Brown has recently had it fitted to his UK98 car and seems to like it.
For the price it certainly seems a good buy.
