How easy to fit exhaust centre section to MY98 ?
#1
Hi all, I have a few questions about fitting a de-cat centre section to my MY98 UK exhaust system.
I have a Scoobysport backbox, and a Falkland Performance downpipe, currently with a standard centre section, which passes the MOT fine.
I'm thinking of getting a de-catted centre section (and sticking the standard one back on come MOT time), but I'm wondering how easy is it to fit ? Do I need any gaskets ?
I assume I'll get more noise, but what effect will it have on power, considering the other exhaust changes I have already made ? Will it spit fire too ? I just want to find out what I might be letting myself in for.
Thanks in advance,
T

Easy to swap.. up on axle stands or one side on a high kerb..
Crawl underneath with 13mm spanners (some might be 14mm)
undo two bolts that connect it at either end.. lift it off of it's one hanger. Bolts can be stubbon if on there for a long time.
I get a few pops.. no idea if it is flaming but probably..
especially when you get it very hot.
Probably free up a few GeeGees. Only ever ran no decat and full decat..

Tony,
Its as easy as JGM says. I know of someone who said it was actually a bit quieter in the car with a full decat, at the moment you are sitting directly above a restriction in the exhaust. You will probably get some pops/bangs but for flames you will need a vent to atmo BOV.

Tony, where (roughly) in Cheshire are you ? Anywhere near Staffs border ? - My 98 has a full de-cat and some other mods if you're interested in taking a look-see,

Thanks Mark, I'm up the other end in Warrington, but I would like to see/hear the difference, perhaps we could get together at one of the Scoobynet meets ?

Tony,
Are you thinking of a center with or without a resonator?
With one the car will definitely be quieter than with the OEM center.
Without, the exhaust note it will be a lot harsher and from what people tell me, quite a lot noisier. There is a noticeable performance gain though.
