after car has gotten warmed up the tickover is getting a bit eratic, although this problem doesn't occur when car is cold. Notice it most when sitting in traffic after driving to work, although sometimes its fine, other times I have to press accelerator slightly to keep the revs up.

It's only ever completely cut out once. Often the revs will drop and the dash lights will come on but then the engine will give a little burst and the revs will rise again.

Help! Car is nearing service which I'm suspecting will sort it but I'd just like to know what is causing this and so I can inform the dealer to take a look at it.

Running lean alone probably wouldn't cause this. Its more likely to be idle control valve, MAF sensor or lambda sensor connected.

Messiah

Identical problem to you for over 2 weeks now.
Mine turned out to be the MAF.
Purchased one from Power Engineering this morning & all okay now.

ur maf is the sensor that is after ure airbox with the square black box that sits on top of the pipe thats the electrics for the sensor below in the pipe!
Usually gets clogged up with dirt etc so spray cleaner through it.
Disconnect the intake system where it joins the pipe work that the sensor is connected to. U will see a metal mesh and the sensor is behind it. Then spray ure cleaner through it as the directions on the tin direct u to! - helped me, my car runs much better now!!

Unhappy

I also get this, AFAIK on my car it is being caused by the BOV being a vent to air type, I am sure if I put the original recirc. back on this would solve it.
If you are not running the standard dump valve check this for correct sealing and return / smooth operation.
