Widely fitted on a number of cars. I've been using mine for the last 15000 miles with no side effects (MY01).
Make sure that when you fit it, that the filter box is properly closed and clipped together - this seems to cause more problems!

Combination of full decat and the ITG does mean that you can hear the turbo spool up - which is nice 
I doubt there is a huge improvment on its own - maybe a few bhp. The overall effect with the decat is great though
