Not on my scoob - my old Peugeot used to do that. I put it down to the cable ends being worn. Never did find out exactly what it was.

Dan,

unplug the connector at the gearbox end and give it a decent cleanup. I had 'bout the same prob as you and the already mentioned connector was the reason...

dhorwich, you should be able to follow the cable from the bulkhead and down through the engine compt and physically just about see where it connects into the gearbox...It's a bit of a b4rsteward to unscrew cos mine has a plaggy thread which is so difficult to thread on when the cable is loading it. Anyway, you should find it no probs once you get down there.

cheers

Since yours is an early MY
it will have a mechanical speedo drive

Your conversion from kmh has probably put a reduction gearbox in the cable
(usually somewhere near where it passes the clutch master cylinder, but possibly elsewhere)

Try giving all parts of the cable a bit of a 'wobble' to ensure it has a smooth path etc

Mine also wobbles occasionally, and sometimes clicks, at certain speeds at at certain ambient / underbody tempuratures

Just another thing, i was doing a 0-60 the other day and i cant seem to get 60 in 2nd gear, it hits the limiter... im thinking that the KPH to MPH thingy is not that accurate.... surely i shouldnt have to grab 3rd for 60...!!???

Any thoughts...anyone..????

It might be worth regreasing the cable once you've cleaned it.
