Default facetime app- wifi ?

Okay quick one guys this time regarding the facetime app. have an iphone 4 here as well as an ipad 2 ( wifi version )

having tried the facetime app between the two devices. ie. have the ipad in the house ( wifi ) I find that we can only get a proper signal / picture when the iphone is within wifi range itself, for example walk anywhere further than out the garden and the signal is lost.the internet connection is on within the actual phone.

what I cant work out is why this should happen , surely if there is a data connection we should still be able to use the app ?

am I missing something obvious here ??!!

Have you got the 'use mobile data' switched on in the facetime settings?

Probably not !! ... back shortly !!!

Update .. okay if I go into my iphone 4 - " settings "- " facetime " I dont see anything relating to " use mobile data " only facetime on / off , use your apple id for facetime and you can be reached by facetime at ....... number.

I can use an internet connection ( iphone 4 non s model ) to a wifi connection okay on the ipad 2 yep ?

any ideas ?

also I take it skype can only be used via wifi connection without buying skype credit ?

Okay had another quick google search on this problem and it would seem you have to add the person in your contacts list first, searched for my sons user name and found it where I had to then send a message to him asking for his permission to accept calls / video calls etc from myself, problem now is that we have not received that message yet to accept ??!!

Skype to Skype calls are free all the time, calling external numbers requires credit.

Okay great , still having a few problems, can now call the wanted person but often the call will end as soon as it starts ringing.

installed on an iphone 4 we find we can call / video call the iphone from the ipad no problem, its just seems to be from ipad to ipad we are having problems with.
