Default Adaware has screwed me again...please help.

Once again, like a fool, I allowed Adaware to update itself.

I carefully scanned what it was doing and looked for check boxes etc.

There were none.

But lo and behold, it's set itself as the homepage and I can't get rid of it, despite deleting Adaware off my computer.

Anyone help me get Google back and the standard Firefox toolbars?
Please?

Edited to say: it also seems to have blocked anything to do with Google. It won't allow Google to show anything, it just comes up as a blank page.
There is no address bar to type Google into, and no toolbar to go into.........

Admittedly it's a tiny screen but I'd forgotten these problems existed using playbook ( hefted pc into skip a month ago)

Isn't it browser choice or something like that

Install and run Spybot, Malwabytes or Norman Malware cleaner. Not the best products out there, but they're free if you want a quick fix.

Click the firefox orange tab at the top left of your screen. Click options, then the other options tab you will see. Then a pop up will appear. Click general. You can then put the URL address of the homepage you want there. Also under the options tab you will see the toolbar you have installed. You can tick or untick from there to make them visible.

Thanks, I've sorted it.
Typing the address I wanted it to go to resulted in a blank page.
I went into yesterday's history, found a Google search, clicked on it, cleared the search parameters and got it back to an empty box search page, (the normal one), then dragged that over to the home tab.

Bloody Adaware. I deleted it off the other computer for just this reason.
I shan't ever instal it again.

When you install a lot of these programs there will be a box that needs unticking before you install. It normally says install ask toolbar and make home page. If you untiock that your existing homepage should not be changed.

Yeah, I looked for it, but it wasn't there. Plus I looked carefully in view of what these tw@'s have done to me once already.

Done with Adaware now.
I've gone through the 'puter and deleted everything pertaining to Lavasoft.

Use a custom host file

Search in google for "custom host file"

Do some research, then use it, it requires no software to use but simply takes advantage of how the web browsers "find" websites, which is the same process for both www.google.com and www.i'mgonnafvckyourpc.com

I stopped using adaware years ago when it went slow and bloaty and started including pestering ads and toolbars

Ironic that a program originally intended to remove malware turns into malware itself by being bloaty, making your PC slow and hijacking your browser homepage, then pestering you with adverts and updates.

Hence using Microsoft security essentials (or Nod32).

CCleaner is sadly heading the same way ....makes sure you get the "slim" version (in the "builds" section of their website ) otherwise you risk having a yahoo toolbar installed on your browser

Any toolbar that covertly self installs when you update or install another program is malware IMHO (by covert, I mean a checked tick box next to a load of small print half way through the installation process - this is intentionally done to mislead you into installing it without realising ).

I was positively livid when Java updater covertly installed MCAfee security scan....on top of Nod32. A stupid marketing tactic that ensured that I will never ever use a product by McAfee and advise everyone I know never to touch it, let alone pay for it
