I have two PC's at home, and would like to just have one keyboard/mouse/monitor. Anyone tell me a cheap Gadget that'll do this.

Cheers

We use KVM switches here in the server room etc. They're not cheap though - well over £100 I think.

You should be able to pick one up from £50-£60 + VAT at the moment as Belkin are running a promo offer on the two port version!

I run my little internet server via pcAnywhere. It beeps a few times at bootup because it doesn't have a monitor plugged in but after that it's fine.

Make sure the KVM can handle the video resolutions you normally run at. The more expensive the unit the higher the resolution it is capable of working at for the video signal.

I notice there's a software install - mark_h, you mention they run in your server room - so you'd have no problems with running a switch like this with 2x win2k servers ?

Thumbs up

We don't install any software on the servers. One of our KVM boxes is used to switch between three NT4 Server PCs and one W2K Server PC.

I think we have all the servers set to use the same resolution/refresh rate, to avoid confusing the monitor too much. The other thing we found is that the mouse works best if all the servers have the same version of the Microsoft driver.
