blackberry torch 1/2
Ok GF is due her upgrade she has 9700 at mo, and we looked at the torch yesterday, she is a texter with long nails so doesn't get on with touch screens very well, hence the need to have a physical keypad, Queston is should she wait for the T2 due out soon, also any feed back on the torch generally.

I would echo the same thing - WIfey has a Torch 1 (9800) - great phone, but designed for the smaller fingers (imho).
I'm about to get a 9810 (TOrch 2) - it will be the same experience, but coming from an iphone, I'll miss the real-estate of the screen....
so that rules out the (better keyboard) 9900 (Bold) - great keyboard, but touch is too small for me.
However for someone with nails etc, the 9900 might be a good option. The ONLY downside of the 9900 is the fixed-focus camera (9810 has autofocus)... whether that makes a difference or not, only she can tell.
Oh and both 9900 & 9810 are out now - don't expect great upgrade deals......
I'm struggling as a NEW subscriber with a PAC to get a half-decent deal.

The keys looked the Same as the 9700 which she is like a machine fun on! I think the difference is the 1 has 634 mhz whereas the 2 has 1.2 GHz, forgot to add she is on Tmobile.

Jonc - I looked at the 9860, but I'm going the OTHER way from a full touch-screen. I want a keyboard.
Hanley - what a bizarre thing to say. What's with the derisive comment?

Rather than saying 'I'll miss the bigger screen' you chose to say 'I'll miss the real estate of the screen'.
It just sounded like one of the phrases we used to have when we played bullsh1t bingo in work, you know what I mean, the bizarre sayings people come out with in meetings
Let's take a helicopter view
Run it up the flag pole and see who salutes
Let's park that one
Thinking outside the box
Blah blah blah!!!
No offence meant

Just an update for you all - I got my Torch 2 yesterday.
And the initial thoughts?
Installation process was flawless. And tbh, this was something I was dreading, as my iphone setup was second to none.
Combined with the fact I'm a Mac-user, I thought I could have headaches.
Installed the desktop app. connected phone. pressed sync on contacts. DONE.
Pressed sync on calendars - it picked up my ical calendars (I'm running a total of 16 calendars for work). Selected the ones to be synced.....DONE.
Put in my email addresses, facebook login, twitter login and other social network stuff. DONE.
All took at tops, 5 mins (well, 7mins - went to get a beer!)
VERY impressed that a phone setup would be as painless as the Apple setup.
My*only* gripe so far is the "7" number is difficult to press on the physical keyboard because of the close keys - but I'm sure there's a way around this.
The touchscreen is SO much more responsive than the 9800, and the 2x processor power is obvious.
OS7 seems to be pretty good, and builds on OS6.
The actual hardware is solidly built and a polished product.
So far, very impressed, and FOR ME, a worthy successor to my iPhone.

Got to admit Jack, RIM have upped their game somewhat - previous Mac software was shocking. Time will tell if they've done enough, or too little too late. I'm still undecided about RIM's bigger game plan if I'm honest. Releasing all these new products so late, there's a chance they've missed the boat.
But speak as I find, the integration was SHOCKING. I expected a sh1tstorm of grief, but instead got an "Apple" experience!!
I've also kept my iphone as an ipod touch, so I now (imho) have the best of both worlds

ScoobyDoo555, What is the Torch 2 like for browsing the web? my Bold 9700's web browser ****s itself everytime I read a forum thread or website that has pictures on it. Annoying as hell and has been made worse by OS6.

Teenagers still love Blackberrys, those teenagers might one day get a job and want to use the same at work. I'm not writing off RIM just yet, they have a good product, just a much smaller market now.

Jamz,
Just checking it now - loads very quickly on a 3G network (using the website www.gearslutz.com)
Pictures & text loaded very quickly and accurately, and pinch/zoom works fine.
And that's on OS7. However, just to counter that slightly, Wifey's got a 9800 on OS6, and still has no issues......

Probably due to the lack of RAM on the 9700. Glad you like it, mines up for renewal soon and I'm pretty happy with the Bold, so may just keep it and get a SIM contract but if I could get the Torch2 at a good price I could be tempted.
