I have run AVG internet security for the last 4 years and never once have i had a problem on any PCs i run it on (about 15 PCs that i look after run it), I just don't see why people want to run Free AV programs.. lets face it, would you run free brake pads on your car??
For only about 25p per machine per month you get full firewall and AV solution. Never had a problem with it and neither have a number of colleges.

I don't like the free brake pad analogy, but... would you still turn down free brake pads if they were being made and given away by the manufacturer of your car?
(Oh, and I have run free brake pads quite successfully ).

AVG is still free. I'll agree it has got too bloated lately but i've ran it for years without a problem. It doesn't give too many false positives unlike others.
Back that up with Malware Bytes and Spybot for on demand and you're sorted.
MSSE might be better but i won't touch anything microsoft if i don't have to.
Absolutely nothing wrong with using free AV software. Paying for software is a mugs game.
