Help With Desktop Files Onto A Laptop.
Hi Folks. Needs alittle help here. Had probs with my Desktop PC, gave it to friend of mine. Short Story is, He's changed it form XP to Windows 7. Works great but all my stuff is on Local Drive C "I think it's called. I've got a laptop through work as a Bonus and I want to Transfer everything from the desktop on to the Laptop.
If I bought an External Hard Drive say 500gb. Enough for my Photos, Music, Films and Work stuff. Is it just a case of plugging it in and pressing Transfer Or is there alot more to it.
Thanks for any help and advice guys.
Cheer's Craig!

no simple craig
just highlight all the stuff you want to transfer then right click the mouse select copy
go to the new right click and select paste
will copy the files rather than just move them, once you have checked they are on your new drive ok you are free to delete them from your old pc

If you've got broadband then you should have a router which will have a switch built in, plug them both into that and then you can transfer from one to the other through the switch.
Not as fast as a direct cable but you wouldn't need a crossover cable, which you probably haven't got.
