I killed my laptop :(
Long story short, I recently installed a registry clean up programme which I used to use on my old laptop (now thinking it`s not compatable with Windows 7) After running the clean up and registry defrag........it won`t restart Can`t start in safe mode, can`t do a system restore....nothing. It runs a fault check / diagnostic check and says it can`t be repaired and I`m a dope
It seems my only option is a factory reset....any other suggestions......sensible ones btw Cheers.

rip out the hard drive and connect it to another machine*. that way you can get to your files.
Then reinstall the OS... having put the hard drive back in
* it'll probably be sata, so you'll need either a sata hard drive caddy or a desktop computer to plug it into a sata port.

Dave you are obviously scared of change. Mac is the way a head. Or maybe you cant afford a quality piece of equipment. You just stick to your out dated, virus ridden, slow running, cheep crap. IMO

Oh and you only haven't got any viruses yet because your chosen product's market share is so insignificant not even the virus writers can be bothered with you, but the day will come and given the number of holes in Linux based servers over the years coupled to the ill informed smug complacency of people like you it is going to be rather funny when it does
To the OP do exactly as per ChefDude's post.

Well mac have been around for as long as i can remember, and never had any virus issues. And yes your quite right about the market share that we have is only about 10% now. And i hope it stays that way.

Yep, twice the price for a Linux based OS with a nice GUI.

It's not based on Linux. Mac OS X is based on the Mach Kernel, an open-source kernel which is not used in any other major operating system. On top of that, it runs the FreeBSD services. Apple calls this "UNIX-based". In fact, it pretty much is a Unix system, even though it's not officially called that.
Thing is you can log on as root at the shell and do all the good LinuxUnix based stuff and see all the same architecture that countless *NIX systems have had to be patched for over the years ergo it is not virus immune... not by a long shot.
Apple can dress it up as white man's magic all they like, but at the end of the day it is *NIX wth a GUI.

The method we use to recover a single Windows terminal, is simply boot Ubuntu/Suse Live from a USB flash drive, this way to can access Windows files within minutes, we can boot it over the network if it is in a certain location.
If you want to try this method, all you need to do is download this burn it to CD or copy it to a flash drive and boot it in Live mode, transfer what ever files to want to recover via your network/the same flash drive you booted from/DVD etc

How do you know how much money he has in the bank, lol.
Macs are good, but dont be the fan boy.
I have Macs, old and new, I have PC's old and new.
I have an iPad, an iPhone.
I run Windows, XP, Seven and 2008 Server, MacOSX, Linux and Android.
OSX looks the best, but it aint the best.
Linux will always win, for someone who knows what they are doing. Mac is easy computing, easier than windows.
But like you, its all IMO

The its a clean install of Windows im afraid.
I dont recommend the use of registry cleaners, they can cause a lot more trouble then their worth, as you have now experienced.

PS. see if it will boot with a proper elite operating system (not a try hard marketing spunkbubble of an OS) like maybe an Ubuntu live cd, and you might be able to access your files

Micky is on the Money. Live CD to grab your files then start fresh.
And will you lot stop comparing OSX to other operating systems. OSX is a small part of the Macintosh experience and until someone else comes up with the goods Apple wins.

Hmmm. There's an oxymoron in there somewhere. As others have said, I'm not anti-Mac. I've used everything from VMS on various vaxes, Unix on Silicon Graphics, SUN, Apollo, HP etc, whatever-Apples-OS-was on an Apple Macintosh (late 80's), Linux on various flavours of HW and Windows from DOs thru 95 to XP (still a bit behind though ...). I use whatever *I* *need* to use and that makes my life easier ..... So far, that hasn't been a Mac but you never know ......
