Cool New SSD For My Laptop

I replaced the old fashioned HDD in my Sony Vaio Laptop with a new SSD and I have to say it absolutely ROCKS

Boot-up time is about 30 seconds to logon prompt and a futher 5 once I swipe my finger or enter password - awesome and exactly how quick a computer should be. Yes, part of that could be a fresh install but having loaded up Win7, updates and all the MS & other bloatware, it still zips along very well. Opening programs is instantaneous and installing them means I've cut back on the amount of coffee I normally consume.

Thoroughly recommended

I got a Crucial M225 for my desktop machine just under a year ago. First one died on me but I had a replacement sent out in 2 days.

Very pleased with it, great boot time, application load time etc

IIRC recovering data off them is tricky should they fail so make sure you back up regular.

It's important to look out for firmware updates as well which can help with performance, trim support and stability.

What make and connection type was your SSD? I put in a RUNCORE 128GB into my ASUS EEEPC901, it's okay but wouldn't call it fast, but it is running Win XP.

Another vote for the crucial m225, though if performance is a must then the 256gb c300 is the top choice, the 128gb is slower. But if price is a factor than the m225 is hard to beat, i have it in my main rig and it's great.

Have you noticed any difference in the battery life after fitting an SSD?

I've got an 80GB Intel SSD in a PC that I'm tempted to put in my Vaio also.
It's only 80GB compared to the 320GB HDD in there already tho, but if battery life is a lot better as well as the performance benefits then I may just do it.
