Can't connect to SMB shares from my Mac
Ever since I bought my Mac I've been connecting to shares on my Windows PC but today it appears to have stopped working.
If I use the 'Connect to server' option in Finder it just gives me a general error saying the server is unavailable, however, I can Remote Desktop this PC from my Mac.
I've tried using the terminal and I get 'protocol negotiation failed'
Hoping some of you guys could help?
Cheers

What OS is it running, 10.6.x?
Firstly, make sure that the Computer name on the PC does not have any spaces in it's name, I think hypens in place of spaces should be ok, but try no spaces. Also make sure your Mac's name doesn't have a space in it either. I've been caught out with the above before.
It's well worth bookmarking macwindows and have a quick read of it now and then.
One tip it does mention for Mac to PC connections via SMB if you are running Snow Leopard (10.6.x) is to use this:
smb://servername:139
instead of just
smb://servername
It's odd it just stopped working, could just be the PC being a pain in the ****.

Hi Markus
No spaces in either computer name, although I'm connecting via IP rather than it's computer name.
I'll reboot my pc when it's finished doing a video conversion and see if that helps.
Only other thing I've done is swapped my router out for a different one.
p.s. What time will see an announcement from Apple?

Hanley,
It doesn't matter if you're using the IP address, which is what I always use. I think it's to do with it not "seeing" the machine for some bizarre reason.
