Wireless printers any good?

Wireless printers any good?
Just a quick question, I'm thinking of getting a cheap wireless printer (HP for about £50) so we can print homework from the desktop and two laptops. At the moment we have a printer attached to the desktop and move files around on a USB stick.
Are they pretty painless to set up?
Having failed miserably to use the home wireless to find the printer
Cheers

They are okay. But it should be easy to set up using what you have: In windows on the desktop, you should be able to share the printer (right click on it and 'share') and on the laptop just type:
\\desktop_computer_name and then a list of printers attached to that computer should appear.

OK, Been on the Desktop upstairs and enabled sharing of the printer
Vista on the desktop says the printer is password protected but can't turn that off !
Downstairs using XP on the laptop it gives me a dialogue box when connecting to the Desktop with the "User" being a little icon of a head and asking for a password.
I don't have the Desktop password protected......
Any ideas
Cheers

This article gives you a pretty good guide on how to turn on printer sharing in Vista. Make sure you've switched on printer sharing AND shared the printer. 2 separate steps.
Then, as long as you can browse to the Vista machine from your XP laptop, you should see the printer and it should let you add it to the laptop

It depends how much money you want to spend: I have a Draytek 2820 but only because I wanted some of the extra features.
I also have a Netgear DG834N that I don't use anymore, but was pretty good -- strong wireless signal and got a high up/down speed from Be*.

Hi Steve
Thanks for the reply.................Sod's law but the Netgear was perfect today !
PC (using a USB dongle), two laptops, Mariocart on the Wii and the I pod touches all worked flawlessly
I just wonder if it gets too hot or if the BT line gets flakey, or if something is on it's last legs on the PCB ?
How much for your Netgear router if you don't need it anymore?
Cheers

They shouldn't get that hot. My netgear has been switched on 24x7 for the last 2 years and it never really even gets warm. Sounds like you may have a slightly defective unit...
