Default Vista/HDD Total Meltdown

Alright guys,

Could some help.

I start my laptop last night and it seem really slow. I thought I would check the usual stuff to speed it up, error check, ad-ware, virus check, defrag, dick clean. As it was completing it's error check (the blue screen error check upon start up) i noticed A LOT of errors. Never seen that many before, and virus scan picked up one virus, then deleted it. It started to work ok.

The next day, nothing it won't even boot up. I have used every thing from pressing f8-f10 to vista recovery disk. Nothing the same mesages appears

"the installed program will fail to start"
or
"HHD 0 or HHD 1 can not be found"

I am sure there is a lot of bad sectors on HHD. I've tried to use DBAN "boot and nuke"
but again it says "DBAN finished with non-fatal errors" This is usually caused by disks with bad errors.

So, is my my HDD Fooked or can it saved for the time been?

Thanks
Adam

Is it still under warranty? If so take it back.

Yes it is still under warranty! bought it 30/11/08. So i'm looking to take it back in the next few days.

All my data was backed up, but i wanted to wipe it and try to re install vista, although to be honest if there is that many bad sector/errors on it, i think it is fooked!

So is there a way to wipe it clean and repair the bad sectors? I'm guessing if Dban can't do it then it's knackered or will some files, still be able to be recovered? I would rather wipe it before sending it back to the shop! I don't fancy some geek search through all my personel files, if they can be recovered!

There is some of mine and the wife's personnel stuff on it, it's all backed up but I don't want someone reading certain financial records off my laptop. If you get my drift!

oh yeah and the "dick check" in my first post was suppose to be "disk check" lol

cheers

If it's complaining it can't 'see' the HD either the HD, or HD controller is at fault, take it back under warranty and let them sort it.

Try knoppix, conect hard drive to another PC with a caddy and it (99 times out of 100) will let you use the drive even if its ****ed.

Does the fixed disk appear in the bios? If so then I suspect that youll have a software problem that wont be covered by warranty.
