Question

Serial port connection takes hours to transfer data. Is it possible to use the USB port? - What the easiest & quickest way?

Cheers

Buy a USB network kit and network the two computers. Should do the trick. Im in Norway and kit here is about 80 quid. Expect to pay a lot less in UK.

If you don't fancy the idea of networking, you could always get a pendrive. It's basically a flashable rom that you can copy files onto through the USB port.

Mine is 128 meg, and I use it all the time between home and the office (and the laptop).

Scan do the 128Mb pen drive for £87. They go up to 512 meg, but that one's pricey!

You could also just buy two cheap network cards: about £10 for a PC and £20-30 for a laptop and a cross-over cable.

You can buy a USB cable to link two PC's together with this purpose in mind. It might be what Beastie was referring to. Heres an example of what I mean:

A decent Ethernet setup is 10 times as fast though. Depends on how much data you're transferring and how long you are prepared to wait.

Thanks again guys. The specific USB PC link cable looks to be what is needed here.

Many Thanks

Actually laptop already has network card, so it presumably would just mean a network card for PC and a 'crossover-cable' - I am told that that method would give MUCH faster data transfer than even the USB port connection ????
