Wireless internet very slow?
Hi all, got my Dell laptop today and have a netgear wireless router, which is meant to be a pretty good bit of kit. My laptop's connection seems very slow though...so is there something I've missed? A firewall somewhere I need to disable etc before it'll work properly?
Also this is my first experience of Windows vista, with the desktop being XP...so don't really know my way about yet.
Any help would be appreciated.
Alan

Are you sure it's not just downloading windows updates in the background? My Vista wireless laptop runs quicker than my XP one (without changing any settings)...

I'm not too sure. Suppose since it's the first day it's been switched on. scobynet pages take literally half a minute to come up!

if it doesn't settle down and start playing nicely in the next day or so post back up .... could be any number of things related to being "fresh out the box" at this point

Are you Using Dell,s app to controll the wireless, or Windows?
From experiance they conflict. I use the Dell app to do the wireless stuff.
The other thing to check is open the wireless app, and look at the signal bar for your wireless connection.
It should be the strongest one there, and should remain stable.
If its bouncing up and down (signal strength) then it sounds like your Wireless card is fubarred.
If its out of warranty, Dell want stupid money for a new card. we sourced
a replacement online for £14.
BTW also if you dont use 'B' stuff, change your access to G only

Sorry, should have posted up again sooner! It's working perfectly now...just took a while to settle down - possibly because it was downloading updates or something as the computer was new.
Thanks all
