Default bought a secondhand SKY+ box

It didn't come with a card or remote though. Tried pressing the record button but it says "please insert viewing card"?

Does it need a card for recording to work?

it will need a card with an active subscription. To record I think they charge £10 per month if you dont have any sky packages

Tenby,

You need a card whether you are accessing SKY services or not. If you want to use the box for freeview then you have to ask SKY for a card. Problem is there is a one-off charge of £20 for the card; hoewever it allows you to access channels and to record.

Hope this helps.

WB

PS Remote control handsets are dead cheap at Maplins

If you have a sky card to watch the sky freesat svs, the record function will not work. Trust me, I have a sky + box connected at home where the record doesnt function. you will get a message on the display telling you to contact a number

Been researching a bit on yahoo. I think they call it Sky FREESAT. Is it paired to the box?

contact sky for the card. sky freesat is just free to air channels from the satellite. As said before though, the record function will not work with just a freesat card as sky turn off the recording functionality

Something like Digital Box with USB PVR for Free Satellite TV > Maplin and stick a USB stick in for record. Might just sell the Sky+ box, just a shame as I have a new card and remote

yep, you will probably get annoyed looking through the hundreds of channels on the sky box, trying to work out which ones you can see

What swung me the toward the Sky freesat was the number of channels is a lot more than the normal freesat.

Do you have a second feed from the lnb?

If not you'll need one.

If you do subscribe to sky there record function is free you don't have to pay a extra £10.

Any more questions I can help I do it for a living

sky + needs two feeds. the maplins will only need one feed unless it is a dual tuner (watch one record another)

No fella, once you have your sky+ box you get everything including all the **** channels, sports pack, HD channels and all the pay per view etc. Just switch it on and away you go, your right wrist will be fit in no time with all those **** channels.
