Question

Never had to use it before, whats the basic settings I need to make to be able to get my PC through it as web proxy?

Tried but failed so far....Have put the firewall address as the upstream server in routing, what else do I need to do to make this work?

Cool

Enjoy!!!

It works from the basis that everything is locked down tight. You have to open it up.

Therefore you need to create users/destination sets/access times/privelidges etc etc & you need at least one of those in all sets before you'll be able to access anything

All options can be found in the Console

Question

Cool thanks...

Just wondered as its all tied in with Active Directory, does the ISA server have to be in the same site as the PDC (as it were)as my PC is? Reason is I've created a new site Domain for this test server to sit in and wondered it will work by stating my client IP address..

ISA Server is only tied into Active Directory if you run the enterprise edition. And even then it is only when you have more than one sever confgiured as an array.

The only other interaction with the AD/SAM is when you assign users or groups to an access policy.

You just need to remember to define your LAT (your internal network) and to install the Proxy client if you want to use things like MSN Messenger/FTP/Etc..

BTW dont listen to Ga22er. He's know idea what he's talking about.

When you say you have a firewall configured as a upstream server. Is the ISA server your primary gateway to the web or do you have another firewall ?

If you have another firewall then this must either be a Proxy Server 2.0 computer or another ISA server (According to the documentation) for upstream routing to work properly.

If you have another firewall I assume you only have one network card in the ISA server ?

What proxy settings do you in IE. Check your port numbers. I think ISA uses 8080 by default.

The "This page is under construction" is the default page for IIS 5.0 installations. I cant understand how you are getting redirected to your ISA servers default web site when you are typing in a legitimate web address (www.microsoft.com).

Regards
Paul

Paul

No ISA isn't the gateway, we have a proxy firewall. I've only got one interface on the ISA server, I'm pointing my client browser to the ISA server's IP address, tried port 80 and 8080, doing this gives me the page under construction error.

I've created a http proxy rule on the ISA aswell.

As this isn't going to plan I may scrap it and build a NT server running proxy.

Cheers for the info

John
