Default Transferring xbox 360 hd data

Just wondered if anyone had done this?

Thinking about getting the new elite but worried about all the downloads/info on my current hard-drive.

Errr... Because of this (Extracts taken from link provided by scarey):

"

This is a special cable that you have to send away for by printing off a form and posting a letter.
It isn't even just a simple connection cable: You have to remove your 20Gb drive from your old Xbox, take the 120Gb drive from your new Xbox, plug the 20Gb drive into your new Xbox, plug the cable into the back - but not in the front - port on your new Xbox, plug the cable? it goes on and on and on. And the process can take an hour or more, warns the Microsoft website, even for a paltry 20Gb of data. "

And this:

"Not the Xbox 360, though, because once your data has been copied from the old to the new drive the transfer process erases the contents of your old drive.
That's right. It trashes it, just in case you might be evil enough to want to keep it as a safe backup or access a saved game on the old console.
Microsoft has decided not to allow you to do this, so you had better hope that your new drive doesn't have a manufacturing fault.
Even when you've done the transfer a lot of the stuff you copy will not work properly.
Arcade games and TV shows are transferred, but the licenses that allow you to play them are apparently associated with the serial number of the console, so they won't play on your new machine unless you are actually online and connected to Xbox Live. And any film rentals will simply not be moved. Oh, and there's one last insult; the cable you get has been specially designed for the purpose, so you're supposed to use it once and then throw it away - or rather, dispose of it "in accordance with the Disposal of Waste and Electronic Equipment Guidelines". what a pile of toss....

connect the 120 to the 20GB console with the cable insert the disc and let it run. yes it takes hours if you have 20GB on it but FFS delete a demo or three before you do it.

your live account can't live on more than 1 mu at a time so what's the point in having two Hdd's with the same crap on them ?

the cable isn't a once only use as that say's, it can be used over and over just that you will only need to use it once.

BBC wouldn't know the blunt end of a games console if it poked them in the eye.

Whereas Micro$oft are wonderfully generous and never produce anything buggy as helland as secure as a Northern rock bank savings account.

So it doesn't trash the data from the original HDD then?
If that's the case then cable would be a good option.

lol @ the BBC, the other day they showed 2 kids playing Halo 3 with a DualShock2 that was plugged into a gamecube...

anyway back on topic - the transfer kit is free from MS, so far I've been waiting 7 weeks for mine to arrive, good job I borrowed one from elsewhere.

PS - it doesnt seem to matter how much you have on your original hdd it always seems to take 1hr 45m - mine stopped twice telling me I had corrupted data, so I deleted about 8gbs worth of arcade game and DLC - and it didn't speed it up any... given that it finally worked for me on the 3rd attempt I'd be suprised that your 20gb hdd will be emptied - it'll be just marked for deletion by another GT/account.

Took me 40mins, that was with about 9gigs worth of data (only 2gigs of mine (Shivering isle + some arcade stuff) , and MS's so called 7gig allocated for system use)
