Isn't that stop message caused by faulty RAM?

To me that looks like their is a corruption within the operating system, and seeing as it is coming up more frequently, would suggest that the corruption is with the boot sector of the operating system.
The first thing to do is to use the original XP disk if you have it, boot into it within dos (eg on boot up, before it loads windows). Then there will be a option to run a repair to check to O/S for an faults. It will ask you to select which operating sysrtem to check, usualy just need to wirte in "1". Then type the admin password (if setup). You will then see a line that looks like this "c:\" once you get to this option you will need to type in the command chkdsk /r. This process can take anything from 10 mins to 3 hours depending on the speed of you machine and then number of faults on the hard drive.
If this does not work then it is more than likely you will need a fresh install of Windows to resolve the issue.

It is as mentioned the memory.
It occurs when something tries to access the memory. In this case it is the win32k.sys trying to access memory that isnt working. If you have more than 1 stick of memory then remove one, and monitor it to see if it still happens, this way you eliminate the faulty ram

Yep 99% its a bad ram dimm. I had the same happen on mine recently to. If your PC is kept on for long periods of time, this can happen after a few years. It's also dependant of course on the quality of the ram used. Thats why I replaced my fubared dimms with Crucial ones.

PC3200 is DDR400 ram, make sure you know what you actually need
1gig is fine, but 2gig is better if u plan on running any flavours of vista.
I would buy it from a reputable branded ram company like Crucial, Corsair, Kingston. You can usually put in your mobo make on their websites and it will list the best dimms for you.

2 x 1gb DDR400 from crucual would be my advise.
If you PC is branded (ie dell) they have a widget to advise you what your options are.
Similarly if you know your motherboard - you can do the same.

Finally pulled my finger out of my backside and ordered me 2x512 sticks made by kingston. Had to do it as my pc crashed and would only let me in via safe mode. Anyway, i thought i'd try my existing stick of ram in another slot and it appears to be fine .
My mobo has 4 slots for ram - A1, A2, B1 and B2. A1 is the one which doesn't seem to work. Tomorrow when my new ram turns up, i was gonna leave the 1 gig stick in A2 and put my 2x512's in B1 and B2, does this seem like a sound plan?
