Default Resolving an IP addy to geographical location

Is there any way of resolving an IP address into a geographical location? Now I have my tracking software working on my webiste, it gives me the IP address of the visitors.

Is there anyway I can find out where the visitors are from?

I was about to suggest NeoTrace which I used previously, but after trying to find it it appears that McAfee have bought out Neoworx.

On Free Software Downloads and Software Reviews - Download.com you can still download NeoTrace Pro however, but its try before you buy software as opposed to Neotrace Express which was free.

Sorry!

This looks like what you want, but again its not free although you can try this one out too:

VOSTROM - Path Analyzer Pro - Graphical Traceroute, WhoIs, Charts, Maps, Performance Testing, ip location, tracert, trace route

If you just want a webpage to lookup locations then use Geolocation IP Address to Country City Region Latitude Longitude ZIP Code ISP Domain Name Database for Developers | IP2Locationâ„¢

Failing that, use the software mentioned in the post above.

Simon.. why not use Google Analytics ? Put a single line of HTML on your site and you'll get all the information you need on your traffic cut and sliced in anyway you like.. amazing amount of information it gives, for free.

Google Analytics

I've got Goolge analytics as well. It's quite handy.

David, thats excellent thank you

Just found out I've been hit by someone in Bangalore!!! (furthest afield) Most are uk, but not the companies I need to see the site. Still its fledgling, so I'm happy so far.

Looking into the other programmes now.

It's amazing where you get visitors for and what they search for to find you.

It surely is, and 2 major companies have hit me through google (proves it works. If you google focus live, I am no 1 globally).

I know the geographical location of 1 IP I'd love to see hit my site and which pages, so I'll keep my fingers crossed.

Getting someone to browse your site is easy, getting them to buy, order, etc. is the difficult part.

When I first installed google analytics, I was checking about 5 times a day to check my hits etc. Now (it's been active 6 months) I check it once a week as hits on my website don't really mean anything to me. I get a regular amount of return visitors and also a steady influx of new visitors but 95% are just browsing around the internet and stumble across my photos or they saw me an an sports event.

I check my e-mails a crazy amount though

I know exactly what your saying mate. My email downloads every 5 mins! and the stats site is now running in a seperate window.

Yes i'm getting googles but its not EMI / Sony that are googling me.

Had quite a few hits through Midges forum, but for some reason they are folloing the link in my signature not the link I posted.

Saing that someone who runs the MU site had a good look rounf my pics of Toy (former band mate of his daughter).

Hence why I wanted to pin locations down, so far I haven't seen the locations that mean anything to me.

Mine downloads every minute.. I left my machine switched off over the weekend and had over 5000 E-mails waiting .. (though 70% was spam.. dread to think how much would have got through without the spam filter)

Simon

We do all our hosting via Welcome to Titan Internet and use their LiveStats to monitor visitor numbers and locations.

Maybe your host could offer something similar?

It depends how your site is written. If you put it as the very last thing just before the </BODY> tag (and not in a table or anything like that) it won't affect your site.

I don't use it, I only notice it on sites I visit. Standard JavaScript practice one would have thought.
