beeping coming from inside PC when 3D game is on screen
Has anyone heard of this before:
During normal day to day operation of my home PC, everything is fine.
Whenever I put on a 3D game, I get an intermittent beeping noise coming from one of the components inside my PC. Seems to be whenever the screen is really busy eg. putting a strain on the 3D card. During the beep, everything freezes on screen for a second, then goes back to normal.
What the hell can it be ?
Graphics card is a Radeon 9800 Pro, with up to date drivers from ATI.
OS = WinXP Pro SP2
Sound = Realtek AC97
Might not be linked but, had to replace a flatscreen monitor last month as it was getting a lot of snow / interference on screen. New monitor is fine.
Any ideas ?

There is a beep alert which can be switched on for overclocking a graphics card. It beeps when it reaches a certain temperature.

Its more than likely an overheating warning. For a list of all BIOS error beep-codes try: Bios Central

If it does it constantly while playing, you may want to get some better cooling.
The side is off my case and a 12 inch desktop fan worked wonders in the summer!

well not in your case as the 9800 pro doesnt need a power connector. others do though as mine did & after afew days forgetting it needed one & me tearing my hair out with it beeping away, i remembered

Wait until it starts to sound and then <reset> and enter the BIOS and look at the CPU temperature. What else is a cycling error 'beep' going to be on a running system?

I took someone's advice and pulled the molex connector out and put it back in again. Seems to have done the trick. I just never realised the Radeon's had this BEEP feature. Thanks for the advice,, all.

Could also be a power supply problem, I have had the same in the past when utilising multiple applications and taxing the machine. Swapped the power supply from a different machine and ran fine.
In fact this has happened on numerous occassions, just a bit of a knacker swapping them out.

sounds more like a dodgy connector. It normally would beep at boot up if you dont have it connected to power but as you say its ok until some heavy action sounds like somethings loose
