Default Slow PC

Hi

My Advent PC (P3, 512 RAM) seems to be running quite slow at the moment, for example taking 30secs to open MS Word when you double click on the icon.
I have virus protection that says all clear (McAfee & Spybot) & last night did a refrag & scan disc which hasn't really helped.
I also dont have much stuff on there eating into hard disc space.

Any other suggestions ?

R.

Do you have the recovery media (if not itll only cost £5 for replacement discs)? The best thing to do is to back up anything that you dont want to lose and to remaster the machine. As Im sure you appreciate, PCs dont run slowly, they run flat out until they fall over. Bearing this in mind, it can only be the OS and installed applications that are causing the problem that you describe. People arent usually enthusiastic about remastering but in my experience (I used to be an Advent engineer), itll solve the problem in well over nine out of ten cases.

Try spybot search and destroy no need to format hard drive.
Works a treat for me and thousands of other members would recommend it also.

There is every need to format the fixed disk; thats why I suggested it.

I would recomend spyware doctor (top noch)

If that does not solve it then GC8 does have a point....there is only so far you can go with cleaning your pc... specially if you are using the net.
