Unhappy Leaving pipex

I'm trying desperately to leave Pipex (need the MAC code). I've been phoning them for the last 48 hours, but each time I get told that due to the high number of calls they can't connect me to customer services.
I've emailed them but the automated response says they aim to respond in 5 working days....

I'm trying to switch to Sky Broadband and the offer code runs out any day. Does anyone have an idea of how to get in contact with Pipex?!

Pipex are ok, just expensive. I'm on a 2Mb service and it's costing me £33/month.

When you get through and ask for your MAC code, they will ask why you want to leave.

I told them of a better offer with BT, and they upped me from 512k to 2mb with 30 gig allowance for £18p/m, instead of the £23p/m I was paying!
The only tie-in was a 12 month contract.

Try to negotiate a deal if you can get through

Can't you log a helpdesk ticket online ? It's usually the only way to get a reliable response. Eclipse took 3-4 days to stump up the MAC

If you are considering switching to Pipex check out the following link for a good deal (it's hard to find by browsing their site) ...

http://www.homecallbroadband.co.uk/p...omparison.aspx

For £29.99 it includes - up to 8Mb Broadband/Unlimited, Anytime call package, line rental & mobile option (gives cheaper calls to mobiles)

I switched to them a few weeks ago from TalkTalk (took over a month & 14 hours on the phone to get a MAC from them) and so far, although early days, haven't had any problems.
There's no LLU in my area so the above was the best overall deal at the time.

We had pipex for business use, it was nightmare trying to get away from them. During the months notice period they did not automaically renew our domain name - hence 2 days with sporadic email ! Would not then release ownership of our domain name to new ISp providers.
Every time complain it was just blamed on thier recent merger !

If you use Bit Torrents for legitimate reasons or otherwise then forget Pipex.

You can do Bit Torrents but they throttle the ports it uses so it will download very slooowly.

Well I've officially switched now!
The ordering process was a bit long winded but it's gone through. One thing though, I was charged a £40 activation fee which has not been mentioned in any of the corresondance (sales blurb) I've recieved from Sky.
Been told to expect to recieve my new router in 5 working days.
Will need to install some software on any of the PC's that I want to connect to the router....

Well I'll hopefully be able to tell you in a weeks time
I'm not sure how or when the switch from pipex to Sky occurs? I've never migrated before.

I'm also thinking of leaving Pipex soon, but i'm reluctant as i've been with them for 4 years + without any drop outs or problems.

Just a shame they do the port throttling down to 19kb/s using any torrent clients, and that they're expensive.

update your client to the latest version and enable encryption on outgoing and incoming torrents

http://broadband.sky.com/flash.htm ( what it costs tab )

they ( predictably ) tried to deliver the modem today, will get it Friday now. Use your old service until it stops working , then plug the new kit in. Usually they send an email with an activation date beforehand...

How do you do that? I have the latest Utorrent, but can't see an encyrption option anywhere. It's currently doing 6kb/sec

Azureus (sp?) has the encryption RB5 talks about.
I upload at around 30K/sec and download at 200K/sec on Pipex 2mb

Think i've found it now in the options, but it still only does 20kb/sec max (now at 1kb/sec) on a 1mb line. It was always up near 100kb/sec before they started packet shaping

The RC4 encryption in Azereus (sp?) fixed the port throttle problems for me. I don't know how or why it works but when the box is checked I get full speed again

20k from 6k looks like it's working .... could it be just a slow torrent
