Default can not delete a file

Hi
i cannot delete a 672 000 KB winamp file. If i right click it, it does not bring up the normal menu with delete in it. it only brings 'play' type options. it will not delete from pressing delete on the keyboard. Going into safe mode it will not delete. Going into My Computer, documents and settings etc will not deleteit.I cannot move it to a flash drive(was then going to format it). i cannot play it either, but i doubt i would want to because its probably not what i thought it was. It has got a very large file name but the option to rename does not appear anywhere. i do not know what extension it is as right clicking does not bring up properties. i have run ad-aware and ewido (similar to ad aware) and it does not find anything wrong. Help ! i dont think its a very nice file. Maybe i should download Hijack this?

You could always try and use Remove On Reboot

I've used this in the past on several 'stubborn' files....

move it to C:\

press f2 to rename it to something like moo

start-run type in cmd , press enter

black box opens up, type in:

c:\
delete moo (maybe press tab to complete the filename)

job done?

type dir to show what the file is really called then delete that?

Oh yeah, if you're downloading random files from the internet, make sure you have a virus scanner:

Never tried that one, but people on here recommend it.

It'd be worth a try using the admin account yeah.

If not open the command prompt start-run cmd enter

change directory to its location

cd c:\moo\wibble\etc

the type del and the first few letters of the filename and press tab, it should autocomplete then hit enter

You could try using Killbox. Just do a quick Google for it. It allows you to delete stubborn files on reboot.

If you're really really stuck..... and Killbox or the Remove & Reboot Extension doesn't work.. or a little feeware utility called 'Who Lock me' doesn't show you the process locking it, then....

There's a CD utility suite called 'Hiren's CD'. It's a bootable ISO setup with over a 100 utilities that should allow you to change properties / delete it.

If you manage to find it, burn it and use it (It's 'warez' and full of naughty/illegal cracked software - which I don't use or condone using) you can boot from the CD and go straight to a pre-windows menu... there you can use 1 of 9 File manager utilities....
