Default PC - Read DVD recorded on home player

A friend has been given a DVD which has been recorded by a home dvd recorder from video. He wants to play it in his dvd player but it says can't find disk.

I've had a look at it and the pc file system will not read it though nero shows an open session with a couple of data tracks.

Anyone know any software that can be used to convert to AVI or MPEG format for use in a PC?

If you can see the files on the dvd and they have the file extension of .vob then you can rename them with the extension .mpg and mediaplayer should play it fine.

Or try closing the session on nero, it may they play on your stand alone dvd player.

Go onto nero and select add to multi session and don't add any files to it, just finalize it, should work fine in any player then

You can't just finalize a track, you have to finalise the whole DISK.

Done it lots of time with Nero.

If I remember correctly I think if you go to the recorder menu then down to disc info it gives you the option of closing (finalize) the disc.

Unable to do any of that, Nero won't allow selection of the session. Found a forum post of someone attampting to do the same here

Edited to say -looks like only option is to finalize on the dvd recorder it was recorded on.

Or you can just copy it and then finalize your copy
